Trip News

The Texas Team at the airport this morning!

Our group of 18 is heading out today for Kampala! We have 7 from Bryan/College Station, Texas; 3 from Charlotte, North Carolina; 3 from Atlanta, Georgia; and 5 from Birmingham, Alabama.

Home by another way... one of our very own clinic volunteers and ABU graduates, Deo Bwanika, came to the United States last year to study at Reformed Theological Seminary in Atlanta. This year, after finding out about H3, his church in Atlanta is sending him BACK to Uganda as our clinic preacher! And... he must be good at recruiting because he's bringing two other Americans from his church.

In our last newsletter in March, we relayed the sad news that Grace Kalenzi, wife of Robert, our H3 administrator in Kampala, had passed away suddenly. Robert and his daughter Arabella are coping and are well supported by their church and extended family. In honor of Grace Kalenzi, H3 will be giving Arabella a scholarship for her future education. H3 is currently supporting around 20 students, from elementary age all the way to graduate studies. Your donations to H3 go to support scholarships such as these!

Plane tickets, overall trip logistics, medications and inflation have increased our trip and clinic costs dramatically this year. This has limited our ability to take on new patients in our long-term care program, and hindered us from taking on new scholarship students. Thanks to the faithful generosity of our donors, we have raised enough to cover clinic costs but we are still in need of funds to cover ongoing expenses through the remainder of this year. In the past, we have relied on one-time gifts; but we have realized that long-term, we will be more sustainable and financially healthy with regular, monthly donations. As a reminder, we have virtually no organizational overhead here in the United States - you can be sure that each dollar given will be put to use in Uganda. Thank you for your partnership in the gospel!

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
— Ephesians 1:3-7

Prayer Requests!

1. Logistics for 18 people traveling internationally is daunting! The weight of this burden falls most directly on Dr. Mike and Robert Kalenzi. Please pray for safety in travel and for everyone's health.
2. The usual clinic prayers - for a good response from the community, for people to hear the good news about Jesus, for sick patients to be identified and treated, and for plenty of volunteers to give of their time.
3. For good communication with our Ugandan counterparts.
4. For team unity! Our team is extremely diverse and almost half the team is brand new to H3.
